Information About Taylor County
Taylor County, a part of Florida's "Nature Coast", was
established in 1856 and has wealth of natural beauty and resources. Perry
is the county seat, and the central hub of road and rail transportation.
Approximately 90% of Taylor County land area is forest, supporting the county's
primary industry of wood processing and many outdoor recreational opportunities.
Taylor County is the Tree Capital of the South.
The area is varied, including coastline, rolling hills, rivers, lakes, as
well as forest.
Residents and visitors enjoy fishing, diving and other water sports. There are
many trails for hiking, biking, or horseback riding as well as excellent hotel
and inn accommodations
The Steinhatchee/Jena areas are considered a fishing and hunting paradise.
Wildlife is abundant, and many varieties of fish, as well as scallops, stone and
blue crabs, are found in the river and bay.
