Colby Redfield, MD, has been named Emergency Services Medical Director at Doctors’ Memorial Hospital.

“We are so honored to welcome Dr. Redfield to our DMH team,” said CEO Lauren Faison-Clark. “His expertise will be an asset in helping us build a culture of excellence in our emergency department.”

With a diverse and decorated background, Dr. Redfield has been on the frontlines of emergency medicine for over two decades. After obtaining his Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license in high school, he worked with a local fire department and then for a busy emergency medical service (EMS) while attending Florida State University College of Medicine at the Orlando, Fla. campus.

Following medical school, Dr. Redfield completed his residency in emergency medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) – Harvard Medical School, Boston, Mass. where he was selected as chief resident. He went on to serve as an emergency medical services fellow through Harvard, as well.

He also served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 2013 to 2022 with tours in Romania and Yemen as part of medical teams, further honing his skills and expertise. In 2016, Dr. Redfield’s passion for patient care brought him to Tallahassee to work at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare’s Bixler Trauma & Emergency Center.

Dr. Redfield took over as emergency medical director for Doctors’ Memorial Hospital on Nov. 1, 2023.  In this role he will work with the emergency room staff to improve operational efficiencies, standardize clinical protocols and increase patient satisfaction.

“I am thrilled to take on the role of Medical Director for the Emergency Department at DMH,” said Dr. Redfield. “I look forward to contributing to the hospital’s growth and making a positive impact on the local community. My focus is on elevating the emergency department experience, ensuring top-notch care for our patients, and contributing to the overall enhancement of healthcare services.”

In addition to introducing a new emergency medical director, DMH is finalizing funding details for the first phase of renovation to the emergency department.  Construction will tentatively begin in spring 2024.
